Mathematics is going to be compulsory in Year 11 and 12. Is this something to worry about?
TRANSCRIPT
Good morning. This is Jason Ursino from Learning Space, and I'm driving to school.
Today, I'm going to be talking about the idea of having compulsory mathematics in Year 11 and 12. Now, it has been spoken about for a long time, and there's even now confirmation that there will be compulsory mathematics in Year 11 and 12. There's lots of different opinions about this. A lot of people do say… a lot of people actually are surprised that it hasn't been compulsory for a long time, saying that mathematics should be a compulsory subject in Year 11 and 12.
It hasn't been compulsory in Year 11 and 12, and now it's going to be in the next few years. So this video is just about that anxiety around the idea that Mathematics is going to be compulsory in Year 11 and 12 and is it something to be worried about, etc. The way they're currently fixed up in year 11 and 12; It's not a very good setup for Year 11 and 12 Mathematics being compulsory because there's no elementary mathematics for Year 11 and 12. I suppose the most basic mathematics is Mathematics Standard, and that's not necessarily an easy math's. It's more of a very practical mathematics, but it's not necessarily an easy math's.
So to get over this anxiety that math's is going to be compulsory in Year 11 and 12, rest assured that they're going to have to change the structure of the subjects in Year 11 and 12. They're going to have some sort of mathematics skills or some sort of elementary mathematics for it to work. So it is important that people understand that there will be a restructure in the Year 11 and 12 syllabus to cater for the idea of Mathematics being compulsory. So hopefully that makes people feel a little bit better, even though Mathematics is going to be compulsory in Year 11 and 12. At the very least, though, the subjects will be catered for that.
