The Winter is the Best Time to Study

It's that time of year when it drops to the cooler temperatures. It is also the best time to study. This video gives 3 reasons why the Winter is the best time to study.

Good morning! This is Jason Ursino from Learning Space, and I'm driving to school, and boy is it cold this morning?!

Today I’m going to be talking about why it is best to study in the winter. So here are the three reasons why it's best to study in the winter or the winter is the best opportunity to do some serious study.

Number one is FOMO, Fear Of Missing Out. In the summer, especially with social media nowadays, we have found that a lot of people are doing exciting things; going to the beach, etc. And it's very difficult to study, when you think about all the things that you're missing out. In the winter, that's very limited. People tend to be working or just getting on with life just at home and not much is happening. And social media is not lit up like it is in the summer. So you don't feel like you're missing out. So FOMO is the first reason. In the winter, you're not missing out. And therefore it's probably a good opportunity to start studying and doing really well with your studies.

The second reason is setting up for the real world. In the real world, the summer is a little bit different to the winter, in the workforce. In the summer, especially in Australia with Christmas there, around that time, we have Christmas parties. I think people are a little bit more relaxed, there is a bit of a buzz in the air, it's a bit like party season, and work production is not as effective as it is in the winter. In the winter, end of the financial year can get quite busy, and therefore most productive throughout the year is during the winter. So it sets the student up for real life, because that's exactly what happens in the real world.

And thirdly, it’s temperature. Studies show that the best temperature to study and for your mind is 22 degrees. Now, room temperature is 25 degrees. So 22 degrees is a little bit cooler than normal, than the normal average temperature. So slightly cooler than the average temperature is the best, best temperature to study. 22 degrees is the best. And there are reasons for this. But quickly, the glucose in our body needs to be in our brains. Now if we are warm, and we need to cool down, that uses more glucose then being able to heat up your body. Because to heat up all we need to do is put some extra layers on and it's less work for the body to heat up. So having our bodies slightly cooler than warmer is better to study.

So they're the three reasons why we should study during the winter. First one is FOMO, the fear of missing out. Secondly is it sets the student up for the real world because in the real world, it's more productive in the winter. And finally, science shows that cooler temperature is better than warmer temperature when we need to study.
